Alternatives to the Total Gym

Have you come across advertisements for an fitness exercise machine called the Total Gym? This machine claims to give your body a total workout in only minutes a day. It works by using your body weight as resistance and giving you a free range of motion. This machine is great -- it allows you to work multiple muscle groups at once. It's been successfully used by physical therapists on their patients. And it certainly can help you shape up. However, it's rather costly. You can expect to pay anywhere from $2000 to $3000 for a Total Gym. There are payment plans available, but if you have bad credit, these may not be an option for you. If you find that you simply cannot afford a Total Gym, don't despair. There are lots of different ways you can shape up that are easy and affordable.
How about Pilates? Pilates is similar in a way to the Total Gym, because both focus on the core of the body while also working other muscle groups. Although you can purchase a Pilates exercise machine, there are lots of Pilates exercises you can do without the need for equipment. Denise Austin, the popular workout guru, offers a book and even a video about Pilates where she walks you through the best exercises to firm and tone your entire body.
Yoga is another way you can work all your muscle groups easily and efficiently. There are countless poses, or asanas, that are designed to focus on various parts of the body. If the poses are done correctly, they are nurturing and safe for your body. There are a variety of yoga books and videos out there to teach you the ropes, or you can try taking a yoga class. If you're looking for cardiovascular training, try power yoga!
As you can see, there are a variety of ways you can get a great workout without spending a fortune on an expensive machine. Think of ways that are fun for you. If you love to walk, get outside and do it! If you enjoy dancing, that's a great way to shape up as well. Most anything that involves movement can offer you some sort of workout. So don't just sit there -- get moving!
